Anxiety

Anxiety (or it’s other name "stress") is something that everyone has to deal with at some point in their lives. However, our world is so fast-paced that it’s easy to get completely overwhelmed. Anxiety becomes a problem when it prevents you from living your life on your terms.

EATING DISORDERS

Eating disorders typically arise during adolescence. These conditions are often life-threatening and very serious. While acute eating disorder treatment is usually done in an inpatient (i.e. hospital), partial hospitalization, or residential center, outpatient treatment following acute care is critical. Usually this involves an individual therapist, a family therapist, and a dietician – but may also involve a psychiatrist. North Texas Adolescent and Young Adult Psychology offers both individual and family therapy for patients with eating disorders.

Life Transitions

Every life contains transitions – moments where you shift from one chapter to another. Life events -- like beginning high school or college, starting a career or family, or dealing with a divorce -- all have an impact on our mental health. Therapy can help build skills to better tolerate the distress of these events and lessen their impact on our functioning.

Coping with Chronic Illness

Chronic illness and Chronic pain conditions can be debilitating. You may even feel like life as you know it has changed forever. What psychotherapy with a psychologist offers is a chance to find meaning, purpose, and ABILITY instead of disability. Many times this means working toward living the life you want despite your medical condition.

identity and meaning

One of the major issues that comes up in late adolescence and early adulthood is that of identity. Perhaps your situation is made more complicated by your family obligations, career, or history. If this sounds like you, then you would likely benefit from short-term individual therapy to give yourself time to explore what you want in life, and learn to appreciate the things that are going well in your life.
