individual therapy

Life comes with a lot of stress, and many difficulties. Individual therapy is the primary way that therapists can help you live your life in the most effective (and healthy!) way. No matter what your age, therapy can be helpful in many different ways, but some examples are listed here:
  • Develop skills to manage and tolerate stress more effectively
  • Get to know yourself
  • Build self-esteem
  • Manage the impact of major life events or transitions
    • Transitions into High School, College, or Work/Adulthood
    • Death of family member, close friend, or pet
    • Coming Out / Transitioning
    • Relationship issues / Divorce
  • Get to know yourself and build confidence in your identity
  • Managing emotions more effectively
  • Tolerate acute distress / feeling overwhelmed
  • Developing “people skills” to improve and maintain relationships
  • Learning evidence-based Mindfulness skills
  • Understanding your value structure and valued actions
  • Avoiding disordered eating behaviors
  • Living the life you want despite a medical diagnosis, chronic illness, and/or chronic pain
  • Discovering meaning in your life and building that meaning
  • Building independence and “adulting” skills
  • Addressing minority stress and/or internalized negativity
  • Much more…
Typical therapy appointments last an industry-standard 45 minutes, though some clients & patients prefer longer sessions when it’s clinically indicated. Length of treatment varies by individual and by goal, but most evidence based treatments are validated on a 12 to 14 session model. Some individuals prefer to have the option of more time, others find that their goals are achieved in a shorter timeframe. Therapists typically check-in on goals and progress regularly, to re-evaluate goals and consider whether they have been appropriately met.
Leave a message with our office and we’ll be happy to schedule you as soon as possible with one of our individual therapists.
