Family-Based therapy

There are certain situations -- particularly with adolescents and young adults -- in which getting the whole family into one room can be incredibly helpful. Family therapy can help your family address issues of communication and improve relationships between family members. Building on a family’s strengths can help that family overcome a variety of difficulties. Family therapy can be especially helpful when there is conflict between parents and their children. Potential goals of family therapy include:
  • Reducing family conflict
  • Helping adolescents and parents hear and understand each other’s perspectives
  • Reconcile cultural, religious, and identity differences between adolescents and parents
  • Helping families to adjust to life transitions and major events
  • Engaging family to maintain healthy eating patterns and avoid disordered eating behaviors
  • Assisting families through the coming out and/or transition of a family member
  • Reducing the “sick role” of a family member with a chronic illness and empowering them to live the life they really want
  • Helping families to identify shared values and trust
  • Much more…
Typical family therapy appointments last an industry-standard 50 minutes. Family therapy can be weekly, every other week, or monthly, depending on your family's needs. Therapists will always work with you to set goals for your family based on your wants and needs - these goals determine the length of treatment, which can vary from a few sessions to a few months.
Leave a message with our office and we’ll be happy to schedule you as soon as possible with one of our specially trained family therapists.
